Violin Soprano Conductor
BEETHOVEN Overture Leonora No.3, Op.72b BRUCH Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, Op.26 SIR JOHN European Premiere
With
forces of 200 strong this celebratory and exciting concert features
Bruch's First Violin Concerto, consistently and deservedly voted one of
the favourite works of the British musical public, performed by
sensational teenage violin star Chloë Hanslip, as well as Beethoven's
great overture. Complementing this - and not to be missed - will be the
European Premiere of Ikon of Eros, an exciting work that sees the performers in a layout that resembles a pyramid with the solo violin at the pinnacle. everything else.' The BBC's World Affairs Editor's new volume of

Tuesday 22 November 2005 at 7.00pm - The Venue, Spur Road, Quarry Lane
Drawing on an extensive and often neglected archive material in
the India Office Library and National Army Museum, celebrated military
historian and television presenter Richard Holmes discusses Sahib: The British Soldier in India 1750-1914, a broad and sweeping military history of the British soldier in India. Its focus, like that of Tommy and Redcoat,
is on the men who served in India and the women who followed them
across that vast and dusty country, bore their children, and, all too
often, mopped their brows as they died.
